Episode Recap: Kirstie Alley Introduces Her Big Life

The queen of weight loss, Kirsite Alley, is back with her series “Big Life” which premiered Sunday night.

While the main purpose of the show is to highlight the actress’ recommitment to weight loss, it also coincides with the launch of her weight loss firm, Organic Liaisons.

Kirsie Alley’s Weight-Loss Firm Linked to Scientology?

The first two episodes, which were aired in Alley’s large mansion, began with her acknowledging her weight problem and constantly putting herself down.

Alley’s chubby-buddy/handyman will be a guinea pig for her weight loss products.  She also confided in Jim during a New Years Eve dinner, telling him she hasn’t seriously dated in 10 years.

In the midst of all her weight (and dating) trouble, Kirstie is still a cool mom. And her teens, True and Lillie are not ashamed of their mother’s weight. Alley’s houseful of animals, lazy assistant Kyle, stylist Tracy, and physical trainer were also introduced during the premier. She also showed her hatred for the paparazzi, who she refers to as “Spawn of Satan.” However, she understood that she would not be featured on the cover of magazines if it were not for her weight. She claimed, “I made myself fat again.” During her first weigh in Kirstie found out she was a whopping 230 pounds. Her goal is to get down to 130-140 pounds. Jim weighed in at 324 pounds and his goal is to drop 129 pounds. These two have a long way to go.  

During her search for a physical trainer, Alley also shows that she is ethnically challenged. After deciding to hire an African American trainer, J.R., she admitted to him that she “has never really been around black people.” He brushed it off and asked her, “Aren’t you friends with Oprah?”

Overall, this series seems like it will be funny, as Kirstie Alley has no trouble speaking her mind about herself and others. The role of the “handyman” is a bit weird, but we guess they needed to put another person struggling with their weight on the show. And the assistant Kyle is sort of zany. Who sleeps on the job and doesn’t know how to search for a trainer in Hollywood? So we will find out if J.R. can help Alley get back to her “Cheers” look.
